Mary Elizabeth Decker, 90, a native of Parkersburg, W.Va., and resident of Lockport, La., for 52 years, died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Lafayette, La., Tuesday, August 21, 2007.

She is survived by one son, Robert Martin Decker II and his wife Gale; one daughter, Patricia Parrott and her husband William; three grandchildren, Mitchel Decker and his wife Kelly, Billy Parrott, and Amy Parrott Guidry and her husband Brian; and two-great-grandchildren to love and adore, Henry Parrott and Emma Guidry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Martin Decker; her parents, Ada and Lonnie Simpson; one brother, William Simpson; and many other relatives and friends in Lockport and across the country.

Mary had a very exciting career in Washington, D.C., where she saw President Roosevelt on numerous occasions and had tea with first lady Eleanor Roosevelt. She then married the “love of her life,” Robert Martin Decker I and moved south to a part of the country she came to dearly love. Her family was her pride and joy.

She is buried in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gray, La.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St. Suite 200, Lafayette, La., 70503. Special thanks to their staff, in particular, Maria Olivier, Chaplain Lou Labbe, and Jennifer and Rose for their love, compassion, care and support.

Falgout Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of the arrangements.
