Scholarship ensuring future’s workforce has needed skills

Myrtle Dixie Rouse Desmares, 90, a native of Poplarville, Ms., and a resident of Houma, La., died at 12:40 p.m. Sunday, January 4.
She is survived by her husband, Burton Desmares; her parents, Andrew Rouse and Esther Cowart Rouse; one son, Charles Raymon Desmares and wife Linda; one daughter, Patricia Ann Desmares Allgood and husband Carlton; four grandchildren, Deborah Allgood Hassen, Alan Allgood, Kimberly Ann Desmares Talbot and Michael Desmares; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Wilbur Roddy, Ellis Rouse, Paul and Elmer Roddy and Jacob Roddie; and three sisters, Eva Rouse Dearman, Ruth Roddie Foxworth and Togo Roddie Thomas.
She was a homemaker and a receptionist. She volunteered as a librarian and was a volunteer at and member of First Baptist Church of Houma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, January 8, at First Baptist Church in Houma with the funeral service to follow. Burial will be at Terrebonne Memorial Park.
