Ray C. Benoit, 81, a native and resident of Thibodaux, LA., died at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2007.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Thibodaux Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his devoted companion, Claudia R. Pitre and her caring family; two stepdaughters, Rita Clement Talbot and Brenda Clement Tinsley; eight grandchildren, Rebecca T. Maggio, Ramona T. Hernandez, Randy P. Talbot, Roxane T. Daigle, Renee M. Talbot, Jessica T. Anderson, Jason L. Tinsley and Jacqueline T. Martin; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Andrew Benoit; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Adles B. Clement Benoit; one great-grandson, Joshua P. Hernandez; one son-in-law, Raymond P. Talbot; his parents, Joseph Felician Benoit and Felicia Trosclair Benoit; seven brothers, Henry, Johnny, Joseph, Alfred, Gaston, Paul and Sidney; and two sisters, Bertha B. Guillot and Odette B. LeBlanc.
He was a kindly gentleman who recognized even the simplest pleasure of life and always had a ready smile for any and everyone. He enjoyed his family and appreciated the affection and respect given to him by his extended family. He and Ms. Claudia really enjoyed playing bingo and did so with every opportunity. He will be missed by his families and many friends.
He served proudly with the Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department, being a member of Protector Fire Company No. 2 for 46 years. Even as an honorary member he continued to wear his uniform and cap with honor and stood at attention as his unit passed by during the annual Fireman’s Parade. He participated in the activities at the Ward 6 Senior Citizens and the Thibodaux Senior Citizens centers. He was retired after many years with the Louisiana State Department of Highways.
