October 11, 2013Richard Joseph Waguespack, 95, a native of Raceland, La., died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.
Mr. Waguespack joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s and helped build Lassen Volcanic National Park in California. During World War II he served under General Patton in Europe. He helped build the first power lines across Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes, worked on the Houma Tunnel until its completion and was a tacker for Avondale Shipyards. He was a retired employee of the Lafourche Parish School Board and was also a grand master decoy carver of some renown. He possessed a natural charm that endeared him to everyone he met. His last spoken words were “beautiful wife.”
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Edwina Waguespack; son, Robert Waguespack; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Grabert. (Falgout)
