Roy Howard Baker, 86, a native of Amos and resident of Houma, La., died at 2:10 a.m. Thursday, August 14.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances “Mary” Grey Baker of Houma; two daughters, Mary Fleniken and husband Dr. Roy Fleniken of Bossier City, La., and Susan Niette and husband Mike Niette of Houma; one son-in-law, Ronald “Ronnie” Chaisson of Houma; one brother, Frank Baker of Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Ron Chaisson, Adam Roy Juckett, Austin Wyatt Juckett, Alex Mark Juckett, James Michael Fleniken, Shane Allen Fleniken, and Kelly Kathleen F. Riley; and eight great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne F. Fleniken, Morgan Cole Fleniken, Harrison Marshal Fleniken, Andrew Michael Fleniken, Palmer Jaxon Riley, Jacob Louis Juckett, Jaelyn Elizabeth Juckett and Madisyn Claire Juckett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Wyatt Baker and Goldie Inez Baker; one daughter, Frances Cathleen Chaisson; one granddaughter, Shannon Elizabeth Fleniken; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Baker; and three brothers, John Baker, Keith Baker and Jim Baker.

He was a retired geophysicist and geologist with Seismac Experts Group Inc. He received a Bachelor of Science degree with the University of Alabama. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of the Rotary Club and the Petroleum Club. He was very involved in the oil industry and with his church. His hobbies were collecting old cars, hunting and renovating old houses. He was known by his grandchildren as “Big Daddy”. He was a great father, grandfather and husband to his wife of 65 years whom he loved dearly. He was a very sociable man who was well liked by all who worked with him. He will be greatly missed by all. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 15, and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, August 16, at First United Methodist Church with a religious service to follow. He will be buried at Terrebonne Memorial Park Cemetery.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
