Ruth Ann Ellender Gray, 81, a resident of Lawrenceville, Ga., died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012.
Mrs. Gray graduated from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in 1952 where she majored in elementary education and library science. She taught first grade in Westwego, La. and then at Chackbay Elementary. She became active in fundraising for the Lafourche Crossing Fire Department and was a volunteer at Laurel Valley Plantation.
She is survived by her children, Jeff Gray, Elissa Twachtman, Dr. J. Paul (Rebecca) Gray, Leslie (Erwin) Shatzen and Lauren (Jeff) King; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth Ellender; husband, Walter Gray Jr.; and sister, Barbara Bernard.
Burial was at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary, La. (Landry’s)
