Silas Payne, 50, a native and resident of Houma, La. died Friday, June 8, 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Corsonder Payne; one son Silas Payne, Jr. and his wife Jamicia; two daughters, Joy Payne and her husband Michael, La Tonya Craig and her husband Steve; four brothers, Frederick Payne and his wife Patricia, Trinidad Payne and his wife Sakeena, Michael Payne, and John Payne and his wife Barbara; one sister, Barbara James; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Richard Payne, Jr. and Emma Christopher; one brother, Christopher Payne; grandparents, Richard and Dartsy Payne, and Clarence Gabriel, Sr. and Albertha Washington.
Silas was a Baptist and a member of New Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and a choir member. He was a U. S. Army Veteran and he enjoyed singing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Visitation is Friday, June 15, 2007 from 1:00pm until 6:00pm at New Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with a musical from 6pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service is Saturday, June 16, 2007 Resident Baptist Church at 11:00am, with burial to follow at Union Benevolent Cemetery.
Community Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
