V.R. “Ray” Thornton Jr., 79, a native of Lufkin, Tx., and a resident of Assumption Parish, La., died at 9:25 a.m. Friday, December 5.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lee Ann O’Quinn Thornton; one son, V. Ray Thornton III and wife Connie of Napoleonville, La.; two daughters, Vickie Lynn Maeder and husband John of Conroe, Tx., and Virginia Ann Thornton and fiancè Billy Mabile of Napoleonville; two step-daughters, Vikki Ward Taft and husband Justin of Springfield, Il., and Rex Ann Ward of Napoleonville; one sister, Betty Keys of Eugene, Or.; brother-in-law, Charles O’Quinn and wife Janette of Avinger, Tx.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, V.R. Thornton Sr. and Lela B. Thornton Glass; one brother, Gordon C. Thornton; his stepfather, James E. Glass; and two step-brothers, Billy and Harold Glass.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean conflict. He was president of Cane Air Inc. and served many years as president of both the Louisiana and National Aerial Applicators Association.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Thursday, December 11, at First Baptist Church in Napoleonville with a religious service to follow.
