Local lawmakers’ pre-filings a mixed bag
March 25, 2010Velma M. LeCompte Melton, 89, a native of Bourg, La., and resident of Elkhart, Texas, died Sunday, March 14, 2010.
She is survived by her husband, Alton Louie Melton; daughters, Joan Commander and Diane Melton Nix; son, Douglas (Lillie) Chauvin; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Willie and Lorina LeCompte; sons, David Chauvin and Johnnie Alton Melton; one granddaughter, Mary Beth Chauvin; brothers, Murray, Amos, Edward, Murphey, Willie, Easton and Phillip LeCompte; sisters, Ethel, Alice, and MayBelle LeCompte, Margaret Smith, Mary Jane Hanks and Mabel Robichaux.
She is buried at Fields Chapel Cemetery in Palestine, Texas.
