May 7, 2014Willard Paul Chauvin Sr., 89, a native and resident of Raceland, La., died Friday, April 11, 2014.
Mr. Chauvin a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he earned a Bronze Star. He was a retired master carpenter and cabinet maker, avid fisherman, hunter and self-taught musician. His passion was wood duck decoy carving. He was among the elite woodcarvers of Louisiana.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Chauvin; son, Willard Jr. (Mary) Chauvin; daughters, Stephanie (Daniel) Guidry and Sheila (Randy) Thibodaux; sisters, Peggy Duplantis and Ruby Mathis; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Armand and Rena Chauvin; brothers, Herman, Douglas and Curtis Chauvin; sisters, Mary Chauvin and Delta Falgout; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Falgout Funeral Home in Raceland and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with mass to follow. Interment will be at the church cemetery. (Falgout)
