Benjiman “Ben” Dewey Allen passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his beloved wife and boys, his dear sister, and a couple of cats on July 1st, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann and Billy Joe Allen. He is survived by his beloved wife Angela; sons Colby (Valerie) and Dalton (Genevieve); grandchildren Patrick, Evangeline, Sylvia, Arlo, Marguerite, and Vera; siblings Cleo, Paula, Elda, Harriet, and BJ. Ben was born on August 26th, 1959. He spent his childhood days running around Grosse Tete, where he loved to play baseball, hunt, fish, and make mischief with his siblings, cousins, and friends. These pastimes followed him all his life, including through graduation from Shady Grove High School to Nicholls State University, where he found his greatest love- his beloved wife, Angie. Their nearly 40 glorious years together took them on many adventures and impacted the lives of countless people. Ben was the proud owner of Delta Electric Company where he served the Baton Rouge area for over 30 years with his extraordinary talent and compassion. He could always be found by Angie’s side, on the baseball field with his boys, hunting and camping at his cathedral in the woods, or wherever you were in your time of need.
Ben’s family would like to thank Jill Bua, Freddie Miller, the staff of Delta Electric, the medical professionals and support staff who cared for Ben at the end of his life, especially Audubon Hospice, and Paula Allen for her selfless care of her baby brother.
Pallbearers will be Colby Allen, Dalton Allen, Chuck Turner, Freddie Miller, Avery Bossier, Steve Merritt, Billy Allen, Seth Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Allen, Robbie Angelloz, BJ Allen, Chris Scott, Jamie Thibodeaux, Stu Moss, and Patrick Allen.
Services to honor Ben’s life will be held as follows: Visitation at Niland’s Funeral Home in New Roads will take place on Friday, July 5th from 5 to 8 pm and Saturday, July 6th from 8 to 9:30 am. A 10 AM funeral mass at St. Mary’s of False River will follow Saturday’s visitation. Rite of Christian burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Grosse Tete. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Tunnels to Towers.
