Derek was not just a wonderful husband but a devoted father and grandfather. His laughter filled our home and he was always ready with a story and warm embrace. He was known to have a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. He never met a stranger and could make friends anywhere he went. He spent much of his career working as a welder offshore but beyond his professional life, he was a master in the kitchen. No matter what he always made every meal feel special. Despite his battle with cancer, he never lost his spirit. He taught us all the meaning of resilience and courage. He approached life with a determination that inspired everyone around him. We will carry him with us forever and his strength will continue to shine brightly within each of us.

Samart Funeral Home of Houma, Bayou Blue is in charge of arrangements.
