Velma P. Cunningham, 95, a native of Chauvin, Louisiana and resident of Houma, Louisiana died at 2:43 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Norland of Ormond Beach, FL, Phyllis Starkey and husband, Jerry, of Monticello, AR, Rose Theriot and husband, Mark, of Thibodaux, LA, Maxine Duplantis of Houma, LA, and Melissa St. Pierre and husband, Richie, of Houma, LA; son, Patrick Cunningham – Troy Woods of Hot Springs Village, AR; 6 grandchildren, Wayne Hudgens, Nikki Cook, Dawn Naquin, Robbie Duplantis, Michelle Reaux, and David Theriot; 8 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin J. Pellegrin and Lucille Dupre Pellegrin; her husband of 66 years, Antoine J. “A.J.” Cunningham; her infant daughter, Rhea Cunningham; and her sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and George Boudreaux of Loranger, LA.
Velma was a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church. She enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time with her family. She loved life to its fullest and knew no strangers. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ACG Hospice of Houma, LA (formerly Journey Hospice).
A visitation will be held in her honor on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Samart Funeral Home of Houma, 635 Bayou Blue Rd., Houma, Louisiana from 9:00 am until the Funeral Liturgy of the Word at 10:30 am. The burial will follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Houma, Louisiana.
