Some of the best young boxers in the area will be in action this weekend at the West Park Recreation Center in Houma.

Local promoter Justin Verdin and the Extreme Boxing Club are hosting an amateur boxing show on Saturday – an event which will feature talented fighters of all youth ages.

Verdin said the show will be exciting – a clean, family-friendly environment for all folks who enjoy boxing talent and premier amateur bouts.

“It’s going to be a really good show. We’re excited,” Verdin said. “The kids have been working hard and they’re ready to showcase themselves and compete in front of their friends and family and everyone else.”

The main event of the show will be a grudge match between two up and coming fighters who used to be of the same gym.

Extreme Boxing Club member Rance Ward will take on former Elite Club boxer Equent Randel in the premier bout – a showdown between two of the better young boxers in the Houma-Thibodaux area.

Verdin said he thinks Ward is ready for the fight.

“He’s been really dedicating himself,” Verdin said. “I think his hard work is going to pay off.”

Ward agreed and said he has a clear goal for the fight – to let his hands go and freely throw punches.

He said he never sparred Randel, but has seen him on tape. Ward said he’s not fearful of anything his opponent does heading into the fight.

“He’s a George Foreman type,” Ward said. “But I can take a punch. I can take a couple punches. … I’m confident. I think it will go how I want it to go.”

In addition to the main event, Verdin said he’s also excited to see younger fighters like Gabby Arceneaux, Evan Pregeant, Haze Domangue, Chaz Verdin, Melvin Porter and Jorge Sobrevilla – all who are booked to compete.

The show starts at 6 p.m. and general admission tickets start at $10. Students can get in for $7.
