TGMC doctor given Leading Lady Award
March 1, 2019The Nicholls State University women’s basketball team didn’t let free opportunities slip by on Wednesday night in a win at McNeese State.
Oh yeah – and Cassidy Barrios is still the best player in the Southland Conference.
That helps, too.
The Colonels roared past the Cowgirls 78-55 on Wednesday night, sinking an amazing 18-of-19 free throws as a team in the dominant, blowout win, Nicholls’ fourth straight.
Barrios was the ringleader throughout for Nicholls, scoring 27 points with 9 rebounds in the victory, which allowed the Colonels to keep pace with the other Southland powers.
Nicholls is now 17-10 overall and 11-4 in the league.
They remain deadlocked in a tie for third place in the conference with Abilene Christian, who is also 11-4 in conference play.
The Colonels left no doubt against their in-state rivals.
Nicholls dominated from the opening whistle, roaring to a 24-10 lead after a quarter and a 33-23 halftime advantage.
Every rally McNeese attempted to make late, Barrios had an answer for with 18 second-half points in the win.
The Colonels return to the floor Saturday at 1 p.m. against UNO.
