The 20th annual American Heart Association Tennis Tournament will be held at Renaissance Health & Racquet Club April 11-13.

Entry deadline is Tuesday, April 8, at 6 p.m.

The fee for adult players is $40; junior players’ entry fee is $20.

Thibodaux signup for summer leagues opens

Registration for the Thibodaux Recreation Department’s summer baseball and softball leagues began last week. Registration is $30 and can be done at Peltier Park or online.

Participants must be age 4- to 18 years old. Leagues range from tee-ball to fast pitch softball and majors baseball, depending on age.

In person registration times are on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4 p.m.; on Wednesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 6 p.m. The final day to sign up is April 26 from 9 a.m. to noon.

League play goes from June 2 until July 24, with a closing tournament July 29-31 for all leagues except tee-ball.

Game times are from 5 to 8 p.m. at either Peltier, Martin Luther King or Daigle parks.

‘Cruisin’ the Bayou’ set for Sunday

Bayou Country Cyclists is sponsoring the 13th annual “Cruisin’ the Bayou” bicycle rides Sunday, April 6, beginning at Thibodaux’s Peltier Park.

The event benefits the Louis Infant Crisis Center in Houma, which prevents child abuse and neglect by expanding protective services through an emergency shelter.

Online pre-registration continues until midnight April 5 at https://bcc.homeip.net:82//bike/. In-person registration begins 7 a.m. the morning of the ride.

Registering riders ages 13-17 must pay $10; riders 18 and over cost $25.

The rides are divided into four groups. Those going the whole 100 miles start at 8 a.m.; 60-mile riders start at 8:30; 40-milers begin at 9 a.m.; and the Kids Fun Ride begins at 9:15 a.m.

All participants in the ride must wear ANSI- or SNELL-approved helmets at all times while operating their bicycles.

Rest stops stocked with water, sports drinks, fruit and snacks will be strategically located along the route.

Riders will return to the sound of lively music and the aroma of red beans and rice, homemade side dishes, desserts, beer and soft drinks.

The 5K winners were Chase Menard with 17:42 and Brandy Bower, who ran the course in 24:54.

• 14 & Under – Ian Shows, 21:05, and Hanna Autin, 35:22.

• 15-19 – Joseph Dupre, 28:00, and Kayla Domangue, 35:37.

• 20-29 – Blake Dune, 24:17, and Jessica Helm, 27:07.

• 30-39 – Kent Thibodaux, 19:49, and Yvette Carroll, 27:38.

• 40-49 – Rudy Baudoin, 22:06, and Janelle Short, 28:59.

• 50-59 – Galen Bollinger, 21:48, and Connie Domangue, 28:15.

• 60-plus – Glen Rhodes, 27:34, and Loretta Naquin, 32:59

Ricky Murphy (41:06) and Tammy Loupe (45:03) were the top walkers. And Peter Alleman (7:43) was the one-mile fun run winner.

NSU Colonels fall toTexas A&M-Corpus Christi

The Colonels suffered their eighth loss in nine games after getting swept in the weekend series to Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Nicholls lost Sunday’s finale 14-10 despite a ninth inning rally.

Seth Webster (1-2) took the loss surrendering 10 runs on 11 hits, walking three and striking out three in 3.2 innings.

Keith Kulbeth went 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs and a double.

Cory Blair got his first win for the Islanders, pitching an inning and a third of two-run relief.

Nicholls (5-20, 1-8 SLC) played in New Orleans against the UNO Privateers Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.

The Colonels host the Tulane Green Wave tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Ray Didier Field.

Nicholls will also host a weekend series against Lamar starting Friday night.
