Les Miles will remain in Baton Rouge, but two other big names won’t be joining him in 2011.

Tigers’ offensive coordinator Gary Crowton announced Thursday that he will not return to Miles’ staff in 2011, but will instead take the same position at Maryland.

Crowton had been the LSU offensive coordinator since 2007, but has seen LSU’s offensive production dwindle after his first few seasons.

The Tigers have ranked in the bottom half of both the SEC and the country in total offense and passing offense each of the past two years.

Miles had initially said he was not sure if any staff moves would be made upon his return to LSU, but with Crowton gone, he’ll begin looking immediately for a new coordinator.

“I appreciate all that Gary did for LSU during his four years with us,” Miles said. “Gary helped us win a lot of games over the last four years, including a national championship. He’s an outstanding coach and a man of great character.”

But Crowton’s not the only departure in Baton Rouge, as halfback Stevan Ridley also announced Thursday he will forego his senior season and enter April’s NFL Draft.

Ridley put himself in a position to test the professional ranks after rushing for 1,147 yards and 15 touchdowns last season.

But the Tigers aren’t exactly going to be halfback depleted with freshmen Spencer Ware, Michael Ford, Alfred Blue returning, as well as Tri-parish standout and Patterson halfback Kenny Hilliard joining the team.

Ridley’s departure means LSU will return eight of 11 starters on offense next season.

The halfback will join cornerback Patrick Peterson as Tigers who declared early for the NFL.

No other underclassman is expected to forgo their remaining eligibility.
