Tri-parish families get troops home for holidays
December 23, 2010The Nicholls State softball team will find out whether or not they can win games on the road this coming season.
They’ll find early in the season, too.
The Colonels announced their 2011 softball schedule last week. And while the highlights of the schedule are home tilts against Southern Miss and LSU, that’s not what will likely catch people’s eyes.
The Colonels open the season with 18-straight road games n a road trip that will take the team through six cities and four states in a more than 20-day span.
The Colonels open the season Feb. 11 in Hammond for the Southeastern Louisiana Lion Classic. Along the way, the team will also play tournaments in Houston and Hattiesburg, before making a detour in Mobile for a game with South Alabama.
While in Houston the team will also make two road trips in one day, playing in both the Houston tournament and also playing a road game in Lafayette on Feb. 19, before returning back to Houston to complete their participation in the event.
When the Colonels do finally return home, they’ll play host to LSU on March 23 and Southern Miss on April 13.
