The majority of Friday’s game between Thibodaux and South Terrebonne was tightly contested, but the Tigers clawed their way in front at the end for a dramatic 32-28 victory.

After trailing most of the game, the Gators finally seized momentum in the fourth quarter when Mike Barba pulled down a touchdown reception from Blake Martin to put his team ahead for the first time, 28-25.

Shortly after, South Terrebonne regained possession from an interception in the end zone with 5:50 left to play.

“They (Thibodaux players) were stunned (at the point) because I thought we had dominated the game,” said Tigers coach Lenny Ford. “We just stopped ourselves. I thought we had the game in hand pretty much the whole way.”

But the Tigers (3-4, 3-1 in district) were able to finish what they started, beginning with a 51-yard run by Trovon Reed to set up a game-winning touchdown pass from Carmichael Pharagood to Brandon Talbot with less than 30 seconds left in regulation.

Reed finished with eight carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

“I felt like our team needed a leader and I needed to step it up tonight,” he said.

The first Thibodaux touchdown came from a quarterback keeper by Donnie Morgan from 14 yards out.

Morgan finished with 16 carries for 120 yards and completed two of five passes.

Gator’s quarterback Blake Martin completed 10 of 18 passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw two interceptions.

South Terrebonne broke the ice in the second quarter with a touchdown pass to Barba, who tallied seven catches for 127 yards and three touchdowns.

Other touchdowns of the night included a five-yard run from Thibodaux’s Brandon Duncan, and the two touchdowns in the fourth quarter that gave the Gators their short-lived lead.

Each team coughed up three turnovers.

South Terrebonne capitalized on two fumbles and one interception.

One fumble came in the second quarter, but the key turnovers came in the fourth quarter when the Gators made their push for the victory, but fell slightly short.

“I told my guys that we needed to get more physical and intense, and I think we showed that,” Ford explained.
