Neighbors angered over blight
November 18, 2010The Louisiana High School Athletic Association announced their official redistricting plan and several Tri-parish schools will see some new faces on their schedules in Fall 2011.
The biggest turnaround will come in District 7-5A, more commonly known to Tri-parish natives as the “Bayou District.”
Exiting the district will be South Terrebonne and Assumption, who both dropped below the 1,102 enrollment mark necessary to be a Class 5A school.
Taking those schools’ place will be New Iberia and Westgate, who were previously in a more Lafayette-based district with schools like Carencro, St. Thomas More and Comeaux.
The Bayou District was scheduled in preliminary plans to be joined by Hahnville, East St. John and Destrehan, but that trio of schools was instead moved into a metro-based district, District 8-5A, with Bonnabel, John Ehret and Higgins.
In Class 4A, Ellender, Morgan City and Vandebilt will have some new district company, as well.
Assumption and South Terrebonne will join that district, District 8-4A. Moving out of the district will be Shaw, Belle Chasse and Helen Cox, who were also moved to a more metro-based district.
Class 3A district lines broke up longtime rivals Patterson and E.D. White.
E.D. White will now be in District 7-3A with Brusly, Donaldsonville, Port Allen, St. Charles and St. James. Patterson will move to a more Western Louisiana-based district and will stay with its other primary rival, Berwick.
Houma Christian also found out its first-ever district as a Class 1A school. They will be placed in the New Orleans-based District 10-1A.
