The New Orleans Saints signed veteran defensive linemen Lance Legree and Anton Palepoi last week, along with rookie free agent linebacker Desmond Sims.

All three players participated in last weekend’s minicamp on a tryout basis.

Legree, a five-year veteran out of Notre Dame, has played in 76 games n starting 25 n since breaking into the league with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2001. The 6-foot-1, 300-pound defensive tackle has 90 career tackles and seven sacks while playing for the Giants and New York Jets.

Legree also was with the San Francisco 49ers last season, but did not see game action.

Palepoi was a second-round draft choice (60th overall) of the Seahawks in 2002 and has played in 35 NFL games. The fifth-year defensive end has 45 career tackles with four sacks, five passes defensed and a forced fumble. In addition to the Seahawks, he has played for Denver and Arizona. A shoulder injury suffered during training camp with the Cardinals last summer kept him sidelined for the 2006 season.

Sims split time between linebacker and defensive end during his career at Arkansas.
