Neighbors angered over blight
November 18, 2010Getting past the quarterfinals wasn’t the problem for three Tri-parish volleyball teams.
But getting past the semifinals was the issue, as E.D. White, Vandebilt and Central Catholic all dropped Final 4 matches this past weekend at the state playoff tournament held at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner, La.
E.D. White lost to Ursuline Academy in Class III to prevent the team from making the finals.
In Class II, it was deja vu all over again for Vandebilt, as they were knocked out of the playoffs by Assumption for the second-straight year. The Lady Terriers had also dropped a paid of matches to the Mustangs during the season.
And in Class V, Central Catholic dropped a straight-sets match to Episcopal of Acadiana to end their season.
The quarterfinals round showed promise for Central Catholic, E.D. White and Vandebilt, who all were able to score victories to advance to the semifinals.
But the Final Four ultimately spelled doom for the area, as the trio all failed to reach the finals.
Central Catholic rolled in straight sets against Hannan (26-24, 25-23, 19) on Thursday in Division V quarterfinals round.
But the No. 3-seeded Eagles couldn’t carry their momentum into the semifinals, as they dropped a three-set match to No. 2-seed Episcopal of Acadiana Friday morning.
After beating St. Michael’s in the quarterfinals on Thursday, No. 2 seed E.D. White lost a four-set match with No. 3 seed Ursuline Academy in Class III to prevent the Cardinals from advancing to the state finals.
In Class II, Vandebilt again made it to the Pontchartrain Center. But for the second-straight year, The Terriers were eliminated at the hands of Assumption, dropping a straight-set match in the semifinals.state finals.
