While all athletes strive to perform their best on the field, it is their work off the field that often matters the most.

The Southland Conference announced its All-Academic Track and Field team last Saturday, which included two Nicholls athletes who have excelled in both the sport and in the classroom.

Those two athletes, junior Charlotte Everhardt and sophomore Marion Chebet, have done their part to guide Nicholls women’s track program to success, while keeping their mind focused on their education.

Everhardt is a distance runner and dietetics major from Metarie, who currently maintains a 3.87 cummulative GPA. Everhardt made a 4.0 in five of her six semesters of college.

Chebet, also a distance runner, has been named to the Dean’s and the President’s list twice. The Eldoet, Kenya native is an accounting major.

Both had successful seasons on the track. Everhardt finished fifth in the 10,000 meters of the Southland Conference Track and Field Championships on May 11, while Chebet wrapped up a ninth place finish in the 800 meters and ran the fourth best preliminary time of 2:18.95 at the championships.

Everhardt also recorded one of the top-five times in Nicholls history with her time of 10:55.61 at the Louisiana-Lafayette Twilight held in April.
