“(Last) Friday night’s Krewe of Hercules parade, we had a total of fourteen complaints which resulted in 8 summons being issued for various misdemeanors.” Coleman said. “Sunday’s parade which entailed 3 krewes rolling simultaneous we had one summons issued and 2 juvenile arrests.”
On West Park Avenue last Sunday a motorcycle-riding Shriner was injured when his bike was struck by a pickup, as he escorted vehicles containing the queen of Hyacinthians and her court.
The incident occurred at 10:51 am. near Buquet Street said Trooper First Class Jesse LaGrange of State Police Troop C.
According to initial information the driver a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north when he began to make a left turn onto the Buquet Street Bridge. The operator of the 1994 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was also traveling north and was approaching the Silverado from behind.
“As the Silverado was making its left turn, the operator of the motorcycle attempted to pass the truck to the left and struck the Silverado on the driver front side.” LaGrange said. “The motorcycle and operator fell over after impact and slid into a parked 2010 Ford F-150. The Trooper advised the operator sustained moderate injuries and was transported to University Medical Center in New Orleans by Acadian Ambulance. The driver of the Silverado was not injured and the parked vehicle was unoccupied.”
Larpenter said that people should use extra caution on parade days, even before parades have started, when driivng.
‘Teople driving to and from a parade are in a hurry to get there, and in a hurry to leave.” Larpenter said.
Three parades rolled back-to-back last Sunday because the Hyacinthians Parade was postponed due to forecast rain.
Larpenter said his records showed a total of four parade related arrests last Friday night.
