LPSO clarifies car sticker rumor
Don’t always believe what you read on the internet.
That’s the message Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is sending out to the public this week after a social media rumor regarding white stickers on vehicle windshields has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
The rumor suggests that the stickers are used by sex traffickers to target certain vehicles and families, but LPSO said that is inaccurate.
The stickers actually are used by companies providing services to automobile dealerships and there is NO intelligence or evidence to suggest that the online rumor has any validity.
LPSO has spoken to automobile dealerships in the parish and they’ve confirmed that the stickers are used locally by dealers – in part because they are weatherproof and water-resistant.
“We have received calls from several concerned citizens after finding a sticker on their vehicle after reading the rumor on social media,” Webre said. “The reality is the sticker or dot is inconspicuous enough that you likely haven’t noticed it.
“While we have found the source of this rumor, we are not suggesting anyone let your guard down,” added Sheriff Webre. “All citizens would be wise to be cautious and aware of your surroundings at all times, especially when you are with your family, and especially during the holiday shopping season ahead. We’re simply informing you there is no evidence to suggest there is any truth to these rumors.”
3rd suspect wanted in shooting
A third suspect is wanted in a shooting, which took place in Thibodaux.
On Halloween night, shots were fired in the city and a victim suffered a wound to her thigh in the incident.
Authorities initially arrested two suspects in the case, but this week, they announced that they are now looking for George Ward, 28, of Thibodaux, as well.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office got a lot of calls this week regarding white stickers on vehicles (pictured), because of an online rumor that the stickers were being put on cars by people targeting locals for sex trafficking. The rumors are false.
