September 7, 2017Thibodaux native arrested, accused of mysterious trespassing
A 23-year-old Thibodaux native is in custody of the city’s police department after he allegedly mysteriously trespassed at homes in the town.
On Aug. 28 at approximately 6:04 p.m., authorities said they were called to Union Drive after Ruiyang Zou, 23, allegedly rang the doorbell of the property owners’ home, then stood motionless at the door.
The male property owner approached the door to confront the suspect and he then walked away from the door and stood at the edge of the driveway.
Authorities said this is a pattern for Ruiyang, who allegedly has done similar things on several occasions in the past.
Two weeks ago, TPD said Ruiyang rang the doorbell of the home and stood motionlessly at the door. Once confronted, he allegedly didn’t move and continued to stand there.
Authorities said they made contact with Zou at his home. He refused to communicate or cooperate with authorities.
Because he had previously been told not to return to the property, he was issued a misdemeanor summons for criminal trespassing and told to appear in court.
Suspect charged in domestic disturbance in Houma
A 34-year-old Houma man is in custody of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly pointed a gun at a female victim following a disturbance.
Authorities were called to 273 Monarch Drive on Friday night in reference to a disturbance.
Upon arrival, deputies said they spoke to a female victim who said that she and others were outside cooking when Quincy Melendez, 34, of Monarch Drive, Houma, walked across the street to their location.
The woman said Melendez was intoxicated and was talking very loud. The woman said she told Melendez to be quiet so they would not get evicted from their apartment. Upon being told that, the suspect allegedly became angry and left the scene.
Minutes later, Melendez allegedly returned and started to yell at the victim, pulling out a silver handgun and pointing it at her. He then left the scene prior to deputies’ arrival.
Authorities said Melendez was driving a 1996 Silver Mercury Marquis at the time of the incident.
After about 20 minutes, authorities patrolling the area located Melendez’s vehicle, conducting a traffic stop at Monarch Drive.
He was taken into custody and arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm.
Melendez was taken to the Terrebonne Parish Jail where he is held on a $30,000 bond.
Golden Meadow man arrested for shooting, damaging several area storefronts
A 51-year-old Golden Meadow man is in custody after allegedly firing a revolver toward several store fronts and street signs in south Lafourche, causing damage to each.
Just before 1 a.m. on Aug. 31, Golden Meadow Police Officers were called to Wildred Duet Street on a report of a man firing a gun at street signs in the area.
After obtaining a description of the suspect’s vehicle, authorities found a vehicle matching the description parked on the shoulder of La. Highway 3235 just outside of town limits.
Authorities made contact with the driver, identifying him as Charles Collins, 51, of Golden Meadow.
Authorities got consent to search his vehicle and found a revolver inside.
Collins allegedly admitted to having recently fired the weapon.
Authorities arrested Collins for illegal use of weapons and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
A few minutes later, LPSO responded to an abandoned convenience store on La. Highway 3235 in Cut Off due to glass on the front door having been shattered.
Three other businesses soon called in with similar reports.
Authorities learned that Collins was driving in the area and he allegedly admitted to firing his weapon at some of the businesses, claiming that he couldn’t remember whether he fired at the others.
In addition to the first charges, Collins now also faces four counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal use of weapons and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
His bond is set at $120,000.
