The Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center will host its annual Summer Pun Kids Day from 10 am to 4 p.m., on July 28. Entering its 19th year. Kids Day has been around since the opening of the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center, earning its place as a mainstay for the venue. Over trip years, the event has. helped provide an affordable community event that allows families to make memories and capture the minds of young ones. Going into this year’s event Scott Belanger, The Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center will host its annual Summer Pun Kids Day from 10 am to 4 p.m., on July 28. Entering its 19th year. Over trip years, the event has. helped provide an affordable community event that allows families to make memories and capture the minds of young ones. Going into this year’s event Scott Belanger, marketing and sales manager for the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center, and his team are expecting 2,500 people to be entertained with inflatables, games, exhibits, and stage performances, geared towards children ages 2-12.
“We try to make this event as big as possible so families will have something to do in a safe and friendly environment in air conditioning where we don’t have to worry about the weather,” Belanger said. “And it’s good for area businesses, because they get to let the public know what they have to offer. It’s really a ‘win-win’ far the community.”
The civic center will be divided into four main areas! Wellness Way, Discovery Den. Play Zone and Safety Square.
The Wellness Way is presented in conjunction with Terrebonne General Medical Center. In Wellness Way, children will see displays and promotions about being healthy. In Discovery Den, brought to you by Walk-Ons. children can interact with live animals by Rodgers Petting Zoo. Children will also be able to meet Curious George, brought to you by Louisiana Public Broadcasting. Discovery Den will also feature a toddler playground for smaller children. In the Play Zone, sponsored by Raising Cane’s, older children will be able to climb a giant inflatable wall, while smaller children can have fun in inflatables, all provided by Bounce ‘N’ Slide Rentals. There will also be face painting in this area.
Safety Square is where children will meet local safety professionals. There will be exhibits by the Houma Fire Department, Houma Police Department. Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Department Louisiana State Police and Terrebonne Office of Emergency Preparedness The departments will demonstrate safety and show off equipment. The Fire Department utilizes an inflatable firehouse that youngsters can go into and see what to do in case of a house fire.
Presenting sponsor Synergy Bank has a little something special up their sleeve this year. In conjunction with their “Pack the Bus” school supply drive, if you bring a school supply to donate, you win be entered for a chance to enter the Slime Booth! Winners will be selected throughout the day to step into the booth and be slimed!
Southland Mall is also offering a chance to win a $500 back-to-school shopping spree Entry forms will be available at the admission table to enter to win.
Engaging kids throughout the day is the backbone of the event, which is where the live entertainment plays a huge role. Local dance and cheer groups. Martial Arts, and a magic show will perform for families throughout the day. STAGE Performing Arts will present scenes from Aladdin. Jr. as well as have Princesses on stage. A K-9 safety demo from Houma Police Department will close out the stage.
At the exhibitor booths, nearly 40 different businesses and organizations will engage and share products with families, giving the event a marketplace atmosphere while also catering to the young ones’
