June 29, 2018Floyd George “Timmy” Chauvin, 74, a native of Houma, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 16, 2018.
He is survived by his son, Timothy M. Chauvin (Dawn); daughters, Lisa Chauvin-Garza (Hiram), and Lynn Chauvin Scaffidi (Gary Jr.); brothers, Bobby Chauvin (Jane), and Lloyd “Totsy” Chauvin (Mae “Sue”); sisters, Doris “Dot” Duplantis, and Sybil Marcel; and grandchildren, Christine Chauvin, Hiram “Roman” and Holden Garza.
Floyd touched countless lives during his lengthy career as a paramedic at Charity Hospital of New Orleans and instructor at LSU Medical School. He was the very first paramedic in Louisiana, the 242nd NREMT-P in the nation, and was particularly proud to be the first paramedic to teach paramedicine in Louisiana. He is considered by many to be the Father of EMS for the city of New Orleans. He presented the original blueprint to the city council, which ultimately brought professional EMS to New Orleans.
He was also a private in the U.S. Army, receiving decoration as a Sharpshooter during the Vietnam era.
He was a devoted son and brother, a loving father, uncle, and grandfather, as well as a trusted colleague, mentor, and loyal friend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the American Red Cross.
