Gene Joseph Callahan, 78, a native of Theriot, La., and lifelong resident of Houma, La., died at 2:32 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016.

Mr. Callahan was a country and Cajun musician and a storyteller. He was a parishioner of Holy Family Church and loved the Saints and LSU.

He is survived by his wife, Mona LeBeouf Callahan; daughters, Edwina (Norman) Naquin, Mona (Ronnie) Lirette, Debora McIngvale, Kim (Darryl) Fanguy and Karen (Michelle) Callahan; stepdaughters, Missy (Randy) Lajaunie and Lisa (Murphy) Parfait; brother, Roger Dale (Gerry) Callahan; half-brothers, Mark (Arlene) and Jerry Callahan; sisters, Geraldine LeCompte, Charlene (Max) Guidry, Mary (Ronnie) Picou, Brenda (Derrill) Riche and Mary Callahan; half-sister, Mary Beth (Matthew) Singletary; step-mother, Elaine Callahan; mother of his daughters, Beverly Gautreaux; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one due in November; eight step-great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.

Burial is at Holy Family Cemetery. (Chauvin)
