Gerald R. Martin, a native of Opelousas and a resident of Houma, passed away at 5 p.m. Sept. 6, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Deanna Neely Martin; and his three children, William Bradford Martin and wife, Diane, Marianna Martin Tabor and husband, Mitchell Tabor, and Melissa Martin O’Neal and husband, David; grandchildren, April Cheramie, Heather Martin, Hannah Martin Rebert, Amanda Martin, Bradley Breaux, Douglas Breaux, Brock Tabor, Christian O’Neal, Sarah O’Neal Depril, Abigail O’Neal Herrera, Laurie Smith and Walter Smith; great-grandchildren, Paul Danos, Kip Danos, Stella Norman, Delilah Martin, Pyper Rebert, Ashton Rebert, Leighton Breaux, Landon Breaux, Anna Smith, Hunter Smith, Alaina Smith and Remi Depril.

Jerry was a retired engineer. He was an avid fisherman and sports fan. Baseball was the love of his life and after retiring he served as a volunteer coach both at Vandebilt Catholic High School and E.D. White Catholic High School. In 2005, he was inducted into the Vandebilt Hall of Fame. In 2007, he received a Volunteer Activist Award in appreciation for his outstanding service to the community. He will be sorely missed by family and friends.
