LIFESTYLE CHANGES – WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

Join the Wellness Education Center of Thibodaux Regional for this eight session program to manage your lifestyle and lose weight. The program teaches you to make changes in your lifestyle to promote healthy eating and regular exercise. Topics include the basics of weight loss, meal planning and portion control, physical activity and eating out, and more. Instructors are Registered Dietitians Rebecca Roussell and Alyce DeGravelle and Registered Nurses Katie Richard and Wendy Naquin. Cost is $75.

BENEATH THE WEIGHT

Terrebonne Parish Main Library has partnered with Paul Waldman, program manager at SelfCare Health Initiatives, to provide a three-week program titled “Beneath the Weight.” “Beneath the Weight” is a free program that targets weight-related concerns such as overeating and emotional eating with interactive workshops that build support among participants. The program’s main focus is mindfulness and understanding rather than diet, exercise, or medication. Participants communicate with each other to address why and when they overeat. Enjoy the music of Grammy winner Wayne Toups. Toups picked up the accordion at age 13 and hasn’t put it down since. He mixes Cajun sounds with the rhythms of zydeco, adding elements of soul music and Southern rock. He calls the rewed-up result “zydecajun,” and his electrifying group, “a Cajun fusion band with a rock ‘n’ roll attitude.”He has recorded more than a dozen albums and toured to more than 20 countries

LEAD THE PACK: A RELAY FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

JC Advance Foundation’s Relay Race for Excellence will raise money for private schools in Thibodaux including St. Joseph, St. Genevieve, E.D. White and eLearning Academy. The Relay is open to everyone, not just runners. The hope is to have parents, grandparents, teachers, or students participating on 3-man teams together. Each person will complete a mile of the three-mile race. Registration fee is $75 per team and the deadline to register is January 12. Contact Paula Rome at 985.688.4812 for more details.

The Chamber’s newly installed officers, outgoing officers and board members are recognized, along with a host of other awards. It’s Carnival time! The Krewe of Aphrodite and Cannata’s will host the annual Children’s Mini Parade. Children 12 and under are invited to decorate a mini float, and throw beads, candy and trinkets to parade-goers. No motorized floats, please. Prizes will be awarded for Best Individual Costume, Best Group Costume and Best Float. Registration begins at 10 a.m.
