Louis Miller, 82, a native of Ethel and resident of Gray, La., died at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015.

Mr. Miller held a bachelor’s and master’s degree in administration and supervision. He was a Korean War veteran and a member of the New Rising Sun Baptist Church. As an employee of the Terrebonne Parish School System for 38 years, he served as a classroom teacher, coach, assistant principal, supervisor of vocational education and director of vocational education and federal programs. He retired in 1994. He was behind Houma’s first Vocational Technical High School. A business entrepreneur, he was president of H & M Enterprises, Woodroffe and Miller Inc., Terrebonne Business and Investment Corporation, Louis Miller Inc., as well as president of the TEA Federal Credit Union Board of Directors. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Terrebonne Parish Community Development Corporation and an advisory member of the Fletcher Community College. He was a life member of the Southern University Alumni

Association, served on the Southern University Board of Supervisors, founder and Advisory Board Member of the Bayou Jaguar Supporters, Inc. where he was president for several years. He was a member of the Louisiana Retired Teacher’s Association, Phi Delta Kappa, American Legion Post 31, and the NAACP.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Martina Chambers Miller; daughters, Joaquina (Terry) Washington and Kimri Miller; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Willie Mae Galloway, Ruth Hall, Delores Woodruff and Joyce (Albert) Mann; brothers-in-law, James and Ghentel (Priscilla) Chambers; and sister-in-law, Bettye C. Buckner.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 19, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Rising Sun Baptist Church, 230 St. Charles St. in Houma. Interment is 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, La. (Jones Funeral Home)
