Samuel Matherne, a registered nurse in TGMC’s cardiac catherization lab, has been named 2014 Early Heart Attack Care (EHAC) Person of the Year.

Matherne is coordinator of the hospital’s nationally accredited Chest Pain Center. He has been with TGMC for more than 18 years.

Matherne was a leading advocate for EHAC training in the organization and the community throughout 2014. He has taken every opportunity to educate and train hospital staff through monthly staff meetings, quarterly town hall meetings, leadership meetings, newsletters and all other available venues. He has carried the EHAC training to the community through Rotary Club meetings, business meetings, local Boy Scout organizations, physician offices and local TV work where he asks viewers and participants to take the EHAC Oath with him.

Matherne was recognized as an honoree at the EHAC Congress workshop on May 6.

“We are so proud that EHAC has recognized the amazing work of Samuel Matherne,” said Phyllis Peoples, president and CEO of TGMC. “His passion to change how cardiovascular disease is viewed and treated is evident by the professionalism and concern he shows for educating our community on this important disease.”
