Merrick honored for community leadership, philanthropy

Patterson Real Estate, ERA Powered, announced today that Robert “Bob” Merrick, chairman and CEO of its parent company Latter & Blum Inc., was honored by the University of New Orleans with an honorary doctorate of philosophy.

He was recognized for his lifelong community leadership and generosity, including a gift of $100,000 for UNO’s coastal restoration graduate certificate programs and student scholarships. Merrick accepted the honor at the university’s fall commencement.

UNO is part of the University of Louisiana System, which enrolls approximately 90,000 students each year at nine universities across the State.

“The University of Louisiana System is educating and graduating vast numbers of our youth who will remain in Louisiana to lead our communities into a bright future,” said Merrick. “We need to ensure they have the right education and training to help move our state forward.”

Patterson Realty’s operators, Ron and Sandy Brooks, praised Merrick.

Rick Haase, president of Latter & Blum Inc., said Merrick is an inspiration.

“This recognition reflects Bob’s years of positive influence in Greater New Orleans as well as his business achievements,” he said. “We are fortunate to have in Bob’s leadership a brilliant example of what it means to remain steadfast in a principle-centered business philosophy. It has always been Bob’s mission to invest… and to be a champion for the communities that have supported our company for nearly 100 years. Hence, one of our guiding principles is to ‘Build Stronger Communities in the Markets We Serve.'”
