RV Maintenance For Summer Travel
April 4, 2019Since opening in 2011.531 Liberty (located at 531 liberty St in Downtown Houma) has become a staple not just in the downtown area but all of Houma I visited the corner cafe – that’s known for their creativity. fresh and local ingredients and dedicated chefs and staff-last Friday evening.
I was greeted with a warm welcome by the staff just after the doors opened for dinner at 5 pm Being fairly empty before the real rush came in, there were still many patrons coming in and out for their take-out orders.
The downstairs seating area of restaurant has a real home-style, intimate atmosphere-with around 15 tables, a four-seat bar, wine rack above the kitchen window, warm lighting and vintage posters and other decor.
After the waitress greeted me. I chose to start off with their local favorite of mine as well) edamame humus with hot pita bread.
Different from the perhaps the more traditional chickpea hummus that has a beige color, the edamame humus had a vibrant green color, of course due to the blended edamame. The hummus was smooth and mixed together very well. The warm, fresh pita bread (with a good enough portion to satisfy a small table) complimented the hummus well to make for a totally gratifying appetizer.
I had to stop scarring down my starter to save room for whatever my main entree would be (I decided to veer away from my favorite — the bacon jam burger served on a tasty jalapeno cheddar bun,) and to have a conversation with my waitress cm two main courses I had my eye on; the balsamic cheese steak and Cheshire pork belly.
Following a very detailed and helpful description an both meals by her, I decided to go with the Cheshire pork belly. I asked what do people usually say about it. “I have never heard any complaints.” she smiled. “People really enjoy it.”
When my main course arrived at my table, me delightful aroma from the fresh cooked and prepared pork belly alerted my taste buds that they were in for a mouth-watering meal.
In front of me was an appetite-filling sized portion of pork belly cut into three square-shaped chunks with green onions on top, resting on top a hefty portion of stone ground corn grits-another specialty of the cafe. A cane gastrique sauce glazed the entire dish.
The first few seconds into my meal. I gained a new appreciation of the high-quality meats, ingredients and produce 531 Liberty is known for using in their dishes. Not only was everything fresh, but it was well-prepared as well
The pork belly was crisp on the outside and the inside was tender and juicy. Not in the slightest was it overcooked, which unfortunately happens often far those not so familiar with the meat. The cane gastrique added an agreeable sweetness to the pork belly The corn grits were exquisite in their own right having garden-fresh corn spread throughout it and that homemade taste.
Deciding I wanted to leave room for their red velvet cheesecake – and perhaps have a late-night meal later-I boxed up the rest of my main course.
The red velvet cheesecake, keeping up with the tradition of the rest of the food I consumed that evening, was extremely tasteful.
The after dinner treat before I devoured it had a vivid red layer in the middle of cream cheese topped with white frosting-all in a chocolate crust foundation, a beautiful and pleasing finale to my meal.
