May 9, 2019The seasons are changing in Louisiana.
Spring is saying her last goodbyes and summer is fast approaching — ready to take the stage until late September, if not into October.
And locals are taking full advantage of their opportunities to be out on the water.
With warmer weather, locals have been able to get out onto the Gulf of Mexico to do a little offshore fishing, something that’s been difficult to do in recent months because of choppy seas because of cold fronts.
The fifth are hungry … and apparently also really, really big!
This past weekend, Captain Joey Maciasz with Down the Bayou Charters landed two huge Cubera Snappers in the Gulf.
The fish are massive — literally the size of grown men.
They were caught under the bright blue skies and warm Friday afternoon sun.
And locals say things are just getting started.
As the weather continues to get warmer, the seas will still calm and more and more boats will be able to take the water onshore to try and track down BUliBi tarpons and other local favorites, including cobia, wahoo, Jack Crevalle and dolphinfish, among others.
In addition to the Cubera Snappers, several other large fish were caught and weighed at local marinas.
“Right now is one of those times as a fisherman, where it’s good because literally everything is biting and literally everything can be had” Houma native Ross Theriot said. “We cannot wait to get out there and fill up our boats and sometimes when you get that bait on the water, you get that special bite from a big fish that you’re going to be telling stories about for the rest of your life. Thai’s the beauty of fish in g Any trip on the boat may be one that is the topic of bragging with your friends forever”

In the section, we discuss the re-emergence of speckled trout into local waters, while also giving information about the Admiral of the 2019 Golden Meadow-Fourchon Tarpon Rodeo. Oh yeah, and there’s a photo of a record-setting fish!
