A 29-year-old Houma man is charged with first-degree murder by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office after a shooting on New Year’s Eve.

At approximately 5:20 p.m. on Dec. 31, officers were called to the area of Livas Lane and West Park Avenue in reference to shots fired and a crashed vehicle, which had been driven into a shallow bayou at the location.

Officers arrived on the scene and identified the victim as Dondre Turner, 24, of Westside Boulevard, in Houma.

Authorities discovered that Turner was driving the vehicle when he was shot during a suspected drug deal, which had gone bad.

Turner was taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by a passerby after the shooting. He was later taken to University Medical Center in New Orleans, where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies investigated the case and identified Jordan Cook, 29, as the shooter.

Authorities got information that Cooks was in Thibodaux after fleeing the scene.

Together with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Thibodaux Police Department, authorities took Cooks into custody shortly after midnight on January 1.

He is charged with one count of first-degree murder and is being held in the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

No bond has been set.
