Cantrelle files suit against Parish Council
March 15, 2019On Dec. 29, 3018, the Thi-bodaux High School boys’ basketball team got beat badly-an 89-55 drumming at the hands of St. Augustine.
They regrouped, recovered, started district and the rest, as they say, is history.
They didn’t lose again— a 19-game winning streak that ended with history being made for the Tigers.
Thibodaux won the State championship this past weekend in Lake Charles, scaring a 70-60 victory over Walter in the Class 5A State Championship Game.
The title is Thibodaux ‘a first in school history.
Coach Tony dark said it “s a day and moment he and his team will not soon forget.
The Tigers fell behind early but stormed back with a 30-point fourth quarter. Rallying from behind was a strong suit for the Tigers, who believe their hard work and conditioning are a factor in those wins.
“I think it’s our conditioning and our ability to stay strong.” Clark said. “We run. The kids could tell you. Fm not sure if anyone runs more than we do. And late in the games, we always had that little extra step.”
Bake on campus on Monday, the Tigers’ Nation embraced their champions with applause, hugs and a party-like feel.
Clark and players said this title will not soon be forgotten — neither by his team, nor the community, which supported Thibodaux all year.
“We did this far them and with them.” senior guard Kobi Johnson said. “They were behind us every step of the way and their energy gave us power throughout the games.”
