Private gardens are often such a mystery; we’ve all heard of the secret garden, correct? A lush, beautiful garden with hid dm pathways and gorgeous blooms can often be the pride of the homeowner.

The Terrebonne Garden Club welcomes guests Beyond the Garden Gate during their annual tour of residential gar-dens from 1-4 p.m. on October 14. Five home gardens and one public space will be featured on this year’s tour. The addresses include: 1804 Bamboo Drive; 219 Terra Cane Drive: 403 Amarillo Drive; 209 Central Avenue; 229 Meandering Way. the St Francis Garden at Southdown Plantation, 1206 Museum Drive. All addresses are in Houma. Guests may tour the gardens randomly, in no particular order. Tickets are $10 in advance from any Terrebonne Garden Club member or $12 at the door of any of the homes or gardens. A raffle will be held at the home on the east side of town on Bamboo Drive.

The Terrebonne Garden Club has been active since 1929, celebrating their 90th anniversary this spring. The Garden Club serves to help with the beautification of Terrebonne Parish. They are responsible for the Blue Star Memorial Highway marker on New Orleans Boulevard, and also hand our recognition awards monthly for residential and commercial gardens of the month. Members also participate in learning about indigenous plants, encourage property owners to use plants to enhance their space, and train to become Master Gardeners. The Garden Club holds monthly meetings at the Terrebonne Parish Main Library and welcomes all new members to join them.
