October 21, 2015We face real challenges to representative democracy
October 21, 2015DESTREHAN – 31 CENTRAL LAFOURCHE-7 The Trojans battled the mighty Wildcats for a half, but couldn’t hold up for 48 minutes, losing for the second-straight time for the first time in 2015. The Trojans are now 4-3 and have to draw a line in the sand and stop the bleeding before things get out of control.
THIBODAUX-49 H.L. BOURGEOIS-28
The Tigers rush for 400-plus in another win, overpowering the Braves defense in their fifth-straight win. The Tigers hit you in a variety of directions and always find ways to hustle into the end zone. That’s a heck of a team in northern Lafourche Parish. They’ll surely be capable of making a playoff push in the always-tough Class 5A.
LAKESHORE – 31 TERREBONNE-13 The Tigers lose for the fifth-straight week – this time at the hands of a Lakeshore team that is among the best in Class 4A. The Tigers schedule doesn’t end easy. Terrebonne closes the year with East St. John, Central Lafourche and H.L. Bourgeois. They need to win out to reach the playoffs.
ASSUMPTION – 34 SOUTH TERREBONNE-14
The Gators keep getting better and better in their rebuilding process, but it’s just not quite enough to get a victory over an Assumption team that is one of the front-runners in District 7-4A. The Mustangs will face a huge challenge on Friday against Vandebilt. The Terriers are gradually improving throughout the season.
ELLENDER-43 MORGAN CITY-2 So much for Morgan City being a relevant contender, eh? The Patriots smashed the Tigers by a blowout to keep their playoff hopes alive in Class 4A. Up next is a huge showdown with South Lafourche on Thursday night.
SOUTH LAFOURCHE-32
VANDEBILT-31
Holy Toledo! The game of the night on Friday was in Buddy Marcello between the Terriers and Tarpons. South Lafourche overcame a two-score deficit in the fourth quarter to push past Vandebilt, who drops to 2-5 on the season.
PATTERSON-40
E.D. WHITE-14
The Cardiac Cardinals got flat-lined on Friday against a dominant Patterson passing attack that is rounding into gear after a slow start to the season. E.D. White must regroup now against a stout North Vermilion team on Friday night.
CCA-27
VARNADO-14
For the first time this season, CCA’s football team earns consecutive victories. This particular one was huge. It gives the Lions a great chance at winning the district championship.
H. CHRISTIAN-43
RIDGEWOOD-28
Houma Christian gets the award for local team who has improved the most throughout the season. The Warriors have now won two-straight and three of their past four games to inch closer to .500 on the season.
Next week’s schedule
Hahnville @ Central Lafourche Destrehan @ H.L. Bourgeois Terrebonne @ East St. John Assumption @ Vandebilt Catholic South Lafourche @ Ellender Morgan City @ South Terrebonne North Vermilion @ E.D. White CCA @ St. Martin’s Houma Christian @ Crescent City
The Houma Christian defense was mean on Friday night against St. Martin’s. The Warriors allowed just a lone touchdown in a big win.
