A prestigious financial advice firm has placed Louisiana eighth in its list of most tax-friendly states for retirees.
Kiplinger’s retiree tax map, available atkipligner.com/links/retireetaxmap, offers a visual guide that compares taxes on income including Social Security benefits, pensions and other forms of retirement income, as well as property, everyday purchases and estates. The guide also reveals special senior tax breaks across all 50 states.
The first seven are Wyoming, Nevada, Mississippi, Georgia, Delaware and Arizona.
Ranking immediately behind are South Dakota and Florida, within the top ten.
The least tax-friendly state on the Kiplinger list is New York.
Arrest made in Houma murder
Houma Police Detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that occurred on Oct. 21 that killed one man and put a woman in the hospital.
Joshua Swan, 22, was arrested on the morning of Oct. 22 after witnesses identified him as the shooter to investigators.
On the morning of Oct. 21, HPD officers responded to the 300 block of Roselawn Avenue after receiving a call about two people being shot.
One victim, Willie Hart Jr., 36, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, a woman, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital.
