February 18, 2016Houma Navigation Canal Bridge set to close for a week
The Houma Navigation Canal Bridge will be closed for a week, beginning in the morning hours of Feb. 22
The closure, which will estimated to last through 6 p.m. on Feb. 28, is to give the Department of Transportation and Development’s contractor ample time to perform electrical work and structural changes.
The bridge closure will begin at 6:30 a.m. on the morning of Feb. 22. If weather doesn’t cooperate, the closure may last for more than a week.
Nicholls baseball set to begin 2016 season
The Nicholls State University baseball team will get its 2016 season rolling this weekend in Thibodaux.
The Colonels will take on Mississippi Valley State in a four-game weekend series that will begin on Friday and will end on Sunday.
The Colonels’ season opener is on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Saturday’s action will be a double-header with the Colonels and MVS playing the first contest at noon and the second at 3 p.m.
Sunday’s game will also be played under sunlight, and is expected to begin at 1 p.m.
The Colonels are looking to build on last season’s 30-win campaign.
