Houma native Sumar Leslie isn’t wasting time making her name known in her new land.
Leslie scored a professional career high 29 points on Saturday, helping lead Werribee to a victory over the Camberwell Dragons.
In addition to the points, Leslie also had 9 steals and 9 rebounds.
She said after the game that the performance was a testament to the hard work she’d done in Houma before leaving in February to go to Australia.
“I knew I was ready, and now I am just doing what I know how to do,” Leslie said. “I have a great team. Let me say that first. I have unbelievable coaches and a great team around me. From there, we’re just working together.”
For Leslie, the performance earned acclaim. She was a member of the Big V’s Blue Carpet Team this past week, which lists the Players of the Week in Australia.
