January 3, 2017Colonels win Riley’s first Southland game
New Nicholls coach Richie Riley has officially won a Southland Conference game.
The Colonels defeated Incarnate Word 94-84 on New Year’s Eve, scoring a first-ever win in league play for the first-year coach.
The game was fast-paced and a lot of points were scored.
The Colonels led 45-41 at halftime, and the teams went back and forth throughout the second half.
But Nicholls made a late surge and took control of the game in the final minutes to secure the victory – the team’s eighth of the season.
Standout guard DeAndre Harris was flawless in the win for Nicholls, scoring 42 points on 12-of-24 shooting to power the team.
Senior Ja’Dante’ Frye pitched in 23 for the Colonels.
