Letter to Governor Edwards Concerning Hurricane Evacuation Routes

OPINION: Sen. Sharon Hewitt and Rep. Bob Owens have sent a letter to Gov. Edwards regarding the West Pearl River Bridge on U.S. Hwy 90. The bridge, a commonly utilized hurricane evacuation route, has been closed for repair since 2022. In the letter, they also request the Governor revisit the state’s hurricane evacuation plans to ensure that residents in southeast Louisiana are given priority in any early evacuation orders or contraflow plans to enable them to safely evacuate while these two east/west hurricane evacuation routes are restricted.
