Grab your blankets or lawn chairs, pack a picnic and join the crowd March 20 at Houma’s Southdown Plantation for a free, outdoor Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra concert.

Set for 3 to 5 p.m., the performance aims to increase the community’s access to music and the arts. It is sponsored by the Houma Regional Arts Council.

“It is great to bring this wonderful event to Houma because it allows people who may not normally have the opportunity to see an orchestra to do so,” said Katie LeCompte, Southdown’s executive director.

Preceding the show – from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m., “Behind the Sounds,” a hands-on education program, lets children and families meet the musicians, and see, hear and touch the instruments up-close.

General admission to the concert is free with outdoor seating on the lawn. Limited reserved seating is available for $25 per person. LeCompte said a cash bar with wine, sodas and snacks is planned. Outside food and drinks are also permitted.

In the event of rain, the concert will move to the Houma Municipal Auditorium – March 20 at the same time.
