“Tresors du Bayou” – Treasures of the Bayou – March 18 lays the groundwork for Nicholls State’s 3rd annual Louisiana Swamp Stomp Festival.

Set for 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., the outdoor Bayou French Education Program is free to the public.

A mix of Cajun music and culture, the program includes local musicians, historian and craftsmen performing for local school children, Nicholls students and guests. Dance instructors will lead the crowd in the Cajun Waltz, Cajun Two-Step and Cajun Jitterbug. And to get you in the mood for the Swamp Stomp, renowned Louisiana fiddler Amanda Shaw and the Cute Guys take the stage at noon for a free concert near John L. Guidry Stadium.

Among the performers are:

  • Treater and dance lesson from Zydeco-Cajun Dance Productions LLC
  • Ann Vidrine, Cajun/French fiddler and storyteller
  • The Nelson Plaisance family with a wood-carving demonstration
  • Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program with wetlands education
  • Janie Luster, of the United Houma Nation, with a Native American craft
  • Carl Parfait, of the United Houma Nation, with a net-making demonstration
  • Roland Cheramie, Cajun band instrument demonstration
  • Bill Hill, saddle-making demonstration
  • John Folse Culinary Institute, cooking demonstration
  • Ellen McCord, paper pulp art demonstration
  • Mitch Samaha, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, fur trapping in Louisiana
